The machine SMS 1000 has been especially developed for the active and fully automatic assembly of the two types of micro-optical components: micro-lens and optical mono-modes fibres.

The SMS machine concept allows the integration of UV or thermal glue, with on site curing or laser welding attachment processes.

The assembly tolerance for the active assembly on the SMS 1000 Machines is +/-0.3 Micron. SMS 1000 Machines are equipped with various operational Units.

Components alimentation units
- several solutions are available: Gel-pak, Waffle Pack, AUER Boats, specifically and multifunctional carriers (for example for the alimentation and transfer of optical fibres.)

Components propositioning unit
- this unit is guided by vision and allows a "rough" positioning (+/- 2 microns) of the micro-optical components before the begin of the final alignment phase. Our robot AUTOPLACE 411 is used as pre-positioning unit.

Active alignment unit - This unit is composed from a piezo manipulator working in relation with a light intensity analyser. This unit has a very robust alignment software.

Components attachment unit
- Dispensing of glue and on site curing or laser welding.

Specific units for cleaning of the components, correction of the fibre orientation before the assembly, bar code reading, marking of good and bad components, controls, etc.

There are two basic concepts for our SMS 1000Machines: one for the lens assembly machines, the other for the fibre assembly machines. However, the integration mode of the different units in a SMS 1000 also depends of the nature and detailed specification of the products for assembly.
