MICRO-SOLDERING
Laser soldering head
Contax Ltd - UK
The two main advantages of laser soldering are.
1. No physical contact with the components.
2. Very precise and concentrated energy distribution.
Contrary to soldering with an iron the heat transfer is not dependent on a physical contact between the source of heat and the work piece. The amount of energy supplied to the point of junction by the laser is constant, thus eliminating the risk of imperfect soldering. A DC motor drives the wire feed to ensure a precise and consistent solder feed. Fume extraction is located at the point of soldering. The soldering head is tried and tested with lead free solder and can even be used with solder paste.
